Sergio Dueñas Meléndez

At the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), Sergio is part of the Market Design & Analysis team and leads efforts and initiatives related to energy storage resources in its various configurations. Sergio works with policy developers, stakeholders, market participants, and other internal CAISO teams to develop tools and advance market design to ensure storage resources contribute to a safe, reliable, efficient, and resilient power gird. Previously, Sergio served as the Policy Manager for the California Energy Storage Alliance (CESA), where he oversaw CESA’s advocacy efforts on storage market participation, California’s Resource Adequacy framework, and long-term planning venues across the state. In addition, Sergio has experience working as a political and regulatory consultant to the electricity, oil, and gas industries in Mexico and the US. Sergio holds a BA with Honors in Political Science and International Relations from Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) and a Master’s in Public Policy from the Goldman School at the University of California, Berkeley.
